ADULT & TEEN PROGRAMS

Martial Arts—It’s Not Just for Kids Anymore

Adults of all ages have discovered that martial arts training can help them get into shape, blow off steam, and kick their confidence level up a notch. Our classes offer so much more than just a workout. They give you the exercise you need to stay physically and mentally fit; they’re also a great place to meet new people. As you attend classes and learn the HMA curriculum, you’ll find your strength increasing, pounds decreasing and your energy level soaring.

How do you Begin?

It all starts with an Orientation lesson; one-on-one with an instructor to give you the basic movements and protocols of our adult Kenpo program.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing; you will train on our mat in bare feet unless you desire otherwise. If you choose to wear athletic shoes, they should be a wrestling or martial arts shoe with no tread on the sole. We also ask that you change into your athletic shoes after you enter the building from the outside as a safety and courtesy to the other students who train in bare feet.

You will then join a beginner Adult class to experience the full flavor of the program. Adult classes include a warm-up with basic punches, kicks and blocks, instruction and practice of self-defense techniques, and power/coordination drills on the heavy bags—a great cardio-vascular, strength building and stress releasing workout. You will be able to borrow a pair of our boxing gloves during your trial program for the heavy bag section of class.

After this first group class the first belt, a white belt, will be awarded as you begin your exciting journey to Black Belt and Beyond. You will be sized for a uniform that will be available in most cases at your next class. The Orientation lesson and first group class are by appointment only.

The Adult Kenpo program at FMA includes two—three classes per week, two during the week and one on Saturday morning. The Adult classes at FMA are scheduled for the most part by age: Teens generally attend class on Monday and Wednesday at 7:15 and Adults on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00. The Saturday morning class is attended by all ranks (Beginner to Black Belt) and both age groups.

Please be aware that should you decide to enroll in our full program beyond the Free Trial period, that our tuition structure is different from other martial arts schools in that we don’t have extra fees for testing or promotion to the next belt, nor do we have a registration or membership fee. Our full program also includes private lessons as needed at no extra charge. We do have a minimum class requirement before allowing students to test for their next rank. This allows students to work toward their personal best.
